Music as Prayer
At Church of the Nativity, music is not an ornament added to worship — it is one of the ways we pray. From the hymns sung by the whole congregation to the choral offerings that lift our hearts at the altar, music carries our prayers when words alone are not enough.
Whether you sing, play an instrument, or simply love to listen, there is a place for you in the musical life of this parish.
Nativity Chancel Choir
For adults and older youth
The Nativity Chancel Choir leads the music at our 10:30 AM service and prepares special music for the seasons of the Church year. The choir is made up primarily of older adults who have sung together for years, and it is a warm and welcoming group.
The Chancel Choir also prepares services of Choral Evensong, one of the great treasures of the Anglican tradition. Evensong is a service of Scripture, canticles, and prayer, sung by the choir and congregation together — quiet, beautiful, and unhurried. Singing Evensong is a rewarding way to serve the parish and to grow as a singer.
Rehearsals
The Chancel Choir rehearses year-round:
Sundays at 9:40 AM
Wednesdays at 6:00 PM
Occasionally, extra rehearsals are added in preparation for special services. These are announced as they are scheduled.
New singers are always welcome. If you have been looking for a way to serve with your voice, or if you have simply been away from choral singing for a while, please consider joining us. There is no audition, and you are welcome to try a rehearsal before making any commitment.
Children's Choir
For children in Kindergarten through 8th Grade
Our Children's Choir is a joyful introduction to choral singing and to the worship life of the Church. Children learn that their voices are a real and valued part of our common prayer — not a performance, but an offering.
The Children's Choir sings periodically throughout the year, including at All Saints' Day, the St. Nicholas Party, the Christmas Pageant, Caroling at Indywood, and other special occasions. Last spring, the children sang a beautiful prelude for Mother's Day.
Instrumentalists
If you play an instrument, there are opportunities to share your gifts at Nativity. Our services have been accompanied by woodwinds, brass, percussion, organ, and piano, and we are always glad to hear from instrumentalists who would like to play.

Music in Our Worship
Music is woven through our weekly worship at Nativity.
At the 8:00 AM service, David Williamson plays organ as part of the quiet, contemplative liturgy.
At the 10:30 AM service, the Nativity Chancel Choir leads the music, joining the congregation in hymnody and offering special music throughout the year.
Special services — All Saints' Day, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and Evensong — offer additional opportunities to worship through music.

Alicia sings in the Chancel Choir and leads the Children's Choir, introducing our youngest singers to the joy of choral worship.
